Introducing Your Tween to Staying Home Alone

Not that your tween is ready to spend more time at home alone, it’s probably a good idea to make sure that they have their own key for safe access to the house when nobody else is home. But instead of just handing over a basic copy of the house key, it’s important to take some precautions that will keep your home safe as your child learns the ins-and-outs of safe home management. For example, you can have your locksmith change the lock on just one door of the house that your tween can have the key to for indoor access. If they lose the key, you don’t have to worry about it opening any other doors but the one obscure entrance that was previously chosen. You’ll find many other helpful tips and tricks on this website that are sure to help keep your tween and home safe.

3 Signs Your Car's Not Secure When You're At Work

When you head to work each morning, you might just park your car in the parking lot without thinking much about it. If you walk out one day to find that your car has been broken into or stolen, however, you're probably going to find yourself wishing that you had paid a little more attention to your vehicle. Making sure that your vehicle is secure while you're at work is important. These are a few signs that your car might not be safe while you're on the job.

1. It's Parked in an Out of the Way Place

Many employees park in out-of-the-way places at their jobs. After all, you probably don't want to park in a prime parking spot that a customer or higher-up might want to use. However, be careful about parking your car in a place where no one can see it during the day, since this puts it at an added risk of a break-in. Instead, try to park your car in a slightly safer place, such as underneath a street light or near a parking attendant booth. If you can't park in one of these places, then you may at least want to park in the same area where other employees are parking rather than parking your car all by itself. Not only can this help protect your car from a break-in while you're at work, but it can help you feel more safe and secure when you're walking to the car after a long, hard day.

2. The Lock Doesn't Work Properly

Another sign that your car could be at an added risk of a break-in or other similar problem is if there is something wrong with the lock. If your car is a little bit older, this might be a problem. If there's a problem with your car locks, then you might not be able to secure your car properly, and you might have trouble gaining access to it yourself when you return to your car one evening. Have an auto locksmith take a look at it and make any necessary repairs to your car's locks.

3. You Leave it Unlocked

It's easy to get a false sense of security when you park in the same place each and every day without any problems. Don't get so comfortable that you leave your car door unlocked while you're at work, though. Instead, make sure that you keep it locked, and set the car alarm, too.
